Far from a place where good fashion goes to die, a simple shift in perception will show you that thrift Stores are filled with incredible quality on trend pieces. Delete the words retro and costume from your consciousness and treat it like a normal shopping experience.
Be discerning and only purchase what you really need, love and will wear on repeat. There is no point buying a bunch of stuff just because its inexpensive.
I think it helps to go with an idea in mind, whether that be that you need a black tux, some cool denim or a stripe top. If you are feeling a look you saw in a mag, on a celebrity or from the runway take that pic with you and shop for pieces that match. I love recreating looks for less and the world is your fashion oyster in a thrift store.
Try grabbing yourself the classics first like this gorgeous trench coat I found for $10, its such a great staple. I wore it here with a classic wool sweater, white tee, black skinnies and leather backpack (also all thrifted) to see Lee’s little nephew play sunday football but I could also really dress this up with an LBD and heels.
